Yes! Its Christmas - nearly!!

And like all good things it's back again – and in the run up to our busiest time of the year we have kept up the pace with some stunning activities. No room for everything but here are the highlights:-
Duke of Edinburgh’s Award students and young volunteers day – our first one was held in late November when 7 young volunteers and our DOE students came to our first special day just for them. They had already had their standard safety briefing – but this time they had some extra help in understanding how working on the trackside needs to be done and the care that needs to be taken. They started with a look at the Diesel shunter and how to prepare it for service and then moved onto some serious gorse clearance in one of the embankments.
We feel very privileged to have young people working and learning at our railway and it is something we want to build on in the future. All deemed it a great success and we are planning another one in January. If you know a young person who would like to spend some time volunteering with us or is looking for somewhere to complete their DOE award then contact Paul on firstname.lastname@example.org.
Truthall Halt rebuilding – which sometimes feels like a saga, is making real progress now. We have overcome the shale ridden ground and managed to install the uprights for the new platform edge. It has been a bit of a marathon but we are now picking up speed. The team are to be commended on a truly stunning effort to make this happen.
William Murdoch – renovations. We are going to get a full inspection of her boiler as well as the other cosmetic work that needs to be done. So she was brought back to Propsidnick at the end of November so that she could be dismantled to expose the firebox and boiler. Work will be being carried out over the winter and hopefully we will have her back intact in the Spring.
Finally all the elves are busy titivating the station and carriages ready for our Santa Specials. Santa is himself on a rigorous keep fit regime to make sure he can cope with the 7 days we are open this year. If you haven’t already booked to see him please get in touch – details are on the home page – we’d love to see you having fun with us again this year.
